GEORGINA BEYER (NZ Labour--Wairarapa): In rising to support the bill, I would like to make one very brief, but pertinent, point about what this legislation will allow for Māori. The bill allows those Māori voters who are enrolled on the Māori electoral roll to vote at their local polling places, whereas at present they must vote at a special polling place, of which there are not many, or must cast complicated special votes at their local polling places. That matter is important for Māori, and I am very pleased to see that it is in the bill.
