An increase in police funding means more money for the Wellington Police District.
Police Minister George Hawkins released figures showing funding for the Wellington Police District increased by $8.17 million between 1999/2000 and 2002/2003.
"This commitment means the police are better able to get on with the job they are trained to do.
"The increase in funding is consistent with the government's determination to invest in key public services," George Hawkins said.
Wairarapa MP Georgina Beyer is delighted with the increase in funding, which gives local police the ability to focus on providing key services to the public.
"In the time that Labour has been in government, we have significantly increased police funding across the board.
"Every police district in New Zealand receives more money under the Labour-Progressive government. The increase in spending is money well spent," Georgina Beyer said.
