Five Wairarapa schools are to get a total of over $1 million in funding for property projects.
Wairarapa MP Georgina Beyer says the money is targeted to fund projects that meet roll growth or to upgrade and expand school facilities.
The largest funding amount - $294,428 - goes to Fernridge School.
The other schools getting the green light are Dalefield School ($252,439); Papatawa School ($195,692); Whareama School ($182,452); and Oueroa School ($148,468).
The funding can be used for a variety of projects such as admin blocks, or to build a new gymnasium or school hall.
The funding for Wairarapa school property is part of an extra $60m being committed nationwide by the Labour-led Government to ensure schools are modern and attractive places in which students feel encouraged to learn.
"In my day classrooms were sometimes cramped, dingy and cold. Today's kids are increasingly getting facilities that are second to none," Ms Beyer said.
The Government is investing nearly $420 million in 2004/05 for new spending on new schools, new classrooms, and other school buildings, bringing total property funding to above $1 billion.
The five Wairarapa schools are among 130 around the country to receive funding under the latest announcements.
