Wairarapa MP Georgina Beyer says funding for the redevelopment of Masterton Hospital is one of the most significant financial injections into the hospital site for a considerable number of years.
"I hope it will provide even greater certainty our health services will be maintained and improved. This should prove that this Government is committed to improving health services in areas such as Wairarapa," Ms Beyer said.
Health Minister Annette King has approved funding for Wairarapa District Health Board's plans for a $27.2 million redevelopment at Masterton Hospital.
Ms Beyer said the Wairarapa District Health Board deserves much credit.
"Doug Matheson chairman, CEO David Meates and their teams have done an excellent job in negotiating this outcome and they are to be congratulated for this achievement," she said.
"The revitalisation of the Masterton Hospital infrastructure is long overdue and I am happy to be part of a Government that has enabled this to happen."
