Georgina Beyer MP for Wairarapa has welcomed news that local Eketahuna golfer Tania Braddick has recieved a Prime Minister's Sports Scholarship.
Georgina Beyer said the scholarships were part of the Government's commitment to supporting excellence in sport.
"But the Government also recognises that young athletes benefit from an education to fall back on."
Nationwide, more than 270 young athletes will receive inaugural Prime Minister's Sports Scholarships to help them towards their sporting and educational goals.
Prime Minister Helen Clark presented the first of the certificates to mark the scholarships to Hockey players in Auckland today. Scholarships are worth up to $10,000. The recipients will be confirming their tertiary education plans over the next month to take up the scholarships.
Tania Braddick, the winner of this years Michael Campbell trophy, aims to become a professional golfer but is also studying Business Technology and Administration at UCOL in Palmerston North and hopes to work as a legal and executive assitant, or maybe even a police officer.
"I look forward to following the progress of Tania over the coming year," Georgina Beyer said.
