New Wairarapa arts & employment programme welcome
12 November 2001

Georgina Beyer MP is welcoming the launch of PACE, a new arts employment programme, which begins in Wairarapa today.

Pathways to Arts and Cultural Employment (PACE) was launched nationally by Social Services and Employment Minister Steve Maharey and Associate Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Judith Tizard in Auckland on Friday. It is a new Work and Income programme for job seekers who list their preferred career choice within the arts and creative industries.

"PACE is a welcome addition to the employment programmes offered by Work and Income.

"The potential of the cultural sector to create employment is enormous. Under PACE Work and Income will customise the employment and training services they offer to job seekers who want to develop a career in the arts.

"An important feature of PACE is that the support available to job seekers will be compiled regionally, supplemented by a nationwide resource pack.

"At the launch of PACE in Auckland on Friday Judith Tizard encouraged arts organisations in other regions to work in partnership with Work and Income.

"This will ensure that the expertise and experience of the Wairarapa arts and cultural sector will be harnessed to get budding Wairarapa artists into work," Georgina Beyer MP said.
