Georgina Beyer welcomes Tararua College funding
12 March 2001

Wairarapa MP, Georgina Beyer, said today she is very pleased Tararua College has been granted more than $2.7 million to build its new technology suite and upgrade science facilities.

"The college has had plans for this for quite some time and I am extremely happy that the Labour-Alliance Government has come through for Tararua College students, staff, board and parents," Ms Beyer said.

"The new technology facility will be an asset not only for Tararua College students but for the wider Pahiatua community, with primary schools in the area able to make use of the suite.

"I am very pleased for the school."

Planning for the upgrade of Tararua College's science facilities and the building of the technology suite has been under way since 1998 and has involved consultation with 16 primary schools within the area.

The Minister of Education, Trevor Mallard, announced today that he has approved a total budget of $2,714,000 for the project and Ms Beyer said she is happy to have played a part in the successful outcome.

"Today's announcement will go a long way towards providing improved education opportunities for the Pahiatua area," she said.
