Wairarapa MP Georgina Beyer is pleased with the outcome of Wednesday's meeting between Minister of Transport Paul Swain and Tranz Rail about safety issues on the rail network.
"I'm particularly pleased that Tranz Rail has agreed to bring forward its timetable to de-stress the Wairarapa line.
"Previously this work was not going to be carried out until late 2003. However, as a result of Wednesday's meeting Tranz Rail has guaranteed to complete this work in January 2003, in line with its deadline to complete the de-stressing of the Wellington metro network," said Ms Beyer.
"The purpose of the meeting was to ensure that Tranz Rail provides information about the nature and extent of the problem and a timetable to fix it," said Ms Beyer.
"As a result of the meeting the Minister has now been assured by Tranz Rail that the information requested is being made available and it's now the job of the LTSA to take that information and ensure that the work and timelines that have been agreed to are implemented."
