Business should get into development packages
5 July 2000

"Get in to it," Wairarapa MP, Georgina Beyer, said about the Industry New Zealand development programmes announced today.

"Local businesses with great ideas should get into it. We have now got three wide ranging initiatives up and running that will support the growth of regions and small businesses.

"The Industry NZ Enterprise Award Scheme will make awards to at least 250 small businesses over the next six months. These awards will be up to $10,000 in any one year.

"This scheme is about creating winners, helping innovative small businesses grow and create jobs.

"The Industry NZ Regional Partnership Programme will strengthen regional economies. $100,000 will be available for a region for planning and up to $2 million will be available for major regional initiatives.

"The programme is designed to make the most of what a region has and will allow local answers to local problems to be found.

"Industry NZ Investment Ready Scheme will give business a better chance of raising finance in the early stages of development.

"The Small Business Investment Readiness component offers training and information about obtaining capital for small businesses.

"The Small Business Deal Brokering component provides ideas brokering and deal making services to encourage private investors to commit funds to new innovative small businesses.

"Business and Regions can now apply for all of these programmes. All the information they need can be obtained by ringing 0800 BIZinfo (0800 42 49 46).

"The jobs machine is up and running. Now it is up to our innovative local businesses to make the most of it," Ms Beyer said.
